How to check a product or outlet
Search by location or by name, and filter by shop type: butchers, restaurants and takeaways, caterers or dessert shops. Schools and suppliers have their own lists.
- Look for HMC's yellow sticker at the outlet.
- Read the yearly certificate on display: it lists the items certified, and items not on it are not covered.
- Check that the outlet appears on HMC's website.
- On packaged chicken, look for HMC's coloured, serialised label; HMC red meat is stamped.
What it certifies
Slaughter and stunning
HMC does not accept stunned meat or poultry. Its criteria require hand slaughter by a practising Muslim slaughterman with the Tasmiyah said on each animal, and a check that three of the four main vessels are cut.
Legal basis and certificate term
A certified outlet displays a yearly HMC certificate, which lists the items it covers.
Worth knowing
- HMC says it does not comment on products it has not certified: not being HMC certified is not a ruling that a product is Haram.
- HMC monitors outlets in the UK towns and cities it covers; it says it cannot yet cover every area.
Recognition in Malaysia
HMC is not on JAKIM's 21 August 2026 list of recognised foreign certifiers. That list decides which certificates Malaysia accepts for imports; it is not a ruling on HMC's standard.
