Texas de Brazil, the Brazilian steakhouse chain, answers 'Do you offer halal or kosher meats?' in its FAQ: 'only our lamb is halal. However, we use the same skewers to cook all meats, including pork. Therefore, although we buy halal lamb, the cooked lamb is not considered halal because of the way we prepare and cook it.' So by its own account, none of its cooked meat is Halal.

Next step Texas de Brazil's own FAQ says that although it buys Halal lamb, it cooks every meat, pork included, on the same skewers, so the cooked lamb is not considered Halal. Its meats are not an option if you eat only Halal meat. How to verify

Why it is Haram

Meat that is Halal when bought can become unlawful to eat if it is cooked in contact with pork. Texas de Brazil applies that itself: it says its Halal lamb, cooked on the same skewers as pork, is no longer considered Halal. Fogo de Chão, by contrast, names Halal lamb and Wagyu without such a caveat.

Where it shows up

  • Brazilian steakhouse (churrascaria) restaurants
  • Meats carved at the table and a salad area

What decides the answer

  • Lamb

bought Halal, but cooked on shared skewers with pork: not Halal, per Texas de Brazil
  • Other meats

    not Halal

Why this ruling

Texas de Brazil is a chain of Brazilian steakhouses where meat is carved at the table. Its FAQ answers the Halal question directly.

What Texas de Brazil says

"We do not serve kosher meat and only our lamb is halal. However, we use the same skewers to cook all meats, including pork. Therefore, although we buy halal lamb, the cooked lamb is not considered halal because of the way we prepare and cook it."[1]

So by its own account, nothing it serves cooked is Halal: the lamb starts Halal and loses that status on skewers shared with pork. For another Brazilian steakhouse that names Halal lamb and Wagyu, see Fogo de Chão; for the cooking style, see Churrasco.

How to verify

Check labels carefully for alternate names or derivatives linked to texas de Brazil, and choose clearly Halal or plant-based alternatives instead.

Quick checks

  • Lamb bought Halal, cooked with pork.
  • Cooked lamb not Halal, per the chain.
  • Choose a churrascaria that separates meats.
