A small, evidence-checked list — not every kebab shop on the Strand.
Malta does not run a state Halal restaurant authority. MCCAA (the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority) handles general food safety, not Islamic dietary certification. Directories that tag dozens of Maltese restaurants as “Halal” — including wine bars and pork-serving kitchens — are not used here.
What does exist: specialist grocers who sell Halal meat under their own name; a handful of restaurants that put a Halal-meat sentence on their own menu or site; an April 2025 ministerial announcement that the World Islamic Call Society certified the Malta Public Abattoir for beef, mutton, and goat (slaughter-plant evidence, not a restaurant list); and a secondary news report that Halal Monitoring Malta certified 30+ named Busy Bee Manufacturing SKUs from February 2025 to February 2026 — that stated period has ended, so Busy Bee cafés are not listed as Halal restaurants.
Alcohol is common in Valletta and harbour-front dining rooms even when the kitchen claims Halal meat. Shared tandoors, fryers, pizza ovens, and dessert stations are usually unverified. Most listings here rest on what the restaurant or grocer published on their own site — a named certificate with dates is less common. Check the evidence chip on each listing.
International chain notes for McDonald’s, KFC, Subway, and Nando’s are country-level (Malaysia JAKIM, UK store-finders, Australian FAQs). They do not clear a Maltese franchise. Open the chain pages, then still treat the shop in front of you as unverified unless that shop has its own evidence here.
Sliema has one sourced kebab kitchen (ozSofra on Pjazza Sant' Anna). Mosta has the same operator at 18 Triq il-Kostituzzjoni. Birkirkara still has no sourced listing — send a correction if you have an operator page or a named current certificate.
The Public Abattoir WICS announcement (April 2025) means some local beef, mutton, and goat can be produced as Halal on request. It does not tell you which restaurant bought that meat this week.

Halal Monitoring Malta’s named Busy Bee SKU period (February 2025–February 2026) has ended; cafés are not listed as Halal restaurants. An operator sentence that suppliers ‘provide halal certifications’ is not a named current kitchen certificate.

Street notes below name the sourced kitchens and grocers. Use the filters for evidence type, cuisine, and alcohol, then open each listing before you travel.
Inside the capital walls, Naan Bar on Melita Street (corner of Old Bakery Street) publishes a Halal-meat sentence on its own site. The same page advertises a cocktail, wine, and whiskey list — alcohol is served. There is no named current certifier or dated kitchen certificate on that page. Tourist lists that stamp ‘Halal’ on wine bars are not used here.
Shakinah’s own site now lists 11 Ta' Xbiex Seafront, Msida, with a Kashmir Bar cocktail menu on the same premises. The June 2025 food-menu PDF says ‘All our meats are Halal’ — a meat-sourcing line, not a full-restaurant certificate, and no certifier name. Older Yellow Malta / Dine.mt pins still point at the closed St Julian’s / George Borg Olivier address; do not navigate there.
Two sourced pins on the strip: Bissmillah Halal Food on Triq il-Harifa is a retail grocer/butcher (SPB 2691) with an operator ‘halal-certified food’ claim and no named certifier. ozSofra Kebab on Triq il-Korp tal-Pijunieri (SPB 2809) publishes ‘our meat is Halal certified’ on its own site — still no certifier name, and pizza shares the kitchen. Neither pin clears the next takeaway on Bugibba Square.
Buġibba / St Paul's Bay Bissmillah Halal Food (Buġibba) ozSofra Kebab (Buġibba)
The same grocer lists a second shop as Bismillah Pak Foods Halal at 77 Triq Manoel De Vilhena, Il-Gżira. Same grocery claim as Buġibba; still no named certifier. Being near Sliema and Gżira kebab streets does not verify those restaurants — a nearby Lebanese dining room (Ali Baba) is not listed because its own pages had no Halal statement.
ozSofra names No 5, Pjazza Sant' Anna as its Sliema branch, under the same Halal-meat sentence as Buġibba. That is one kebab kitchen, not a Tower Road or Qui-si-sana survey. Moroccan and Lebanese dining rooms nearby are not listed unless their own sites publish a Halal claim.
The same operator lists 18 Triq il-Kostituzzjoni, Mosta (MST 9059) as a daily kitchen with Buġibba. Useful if you are staying inland near the rotunda; still a meat-line claim, not a certificate for Constitution Street takeaways.
