How to verify
- Malaysia: every outlet is JAKIM-certified; check the certificate in store or on MYeHALAL.
- Singapore: every restaurant holds MUIS certification; look for the MUIS Halal mark.
- UK: no Halal statement and pork on the breakfast menu, so treat the meat as not Halal.
- Canada: no certification; if you eat there, keep to items without meat that are handled separately, such as coffee, doughnuts and Timbits.
- Other countries: look for a statement from that country's operator or a certificate in the restaurant.
Quick checks
- Malaysia and Singapore: certified at every outlet.

Why this ruling
Tim Hortons is the Canadian coffee and doughnut chain, now also in the UK, the Gulf and South-East Asia. Each country has its own operator, and the Halal answer changes at the border.
Where Tim Hortons is Halal-certified
| Country | Halal? | Certifier | Since |
|---|---|---|---|
| Malaysia | Yes, every outlet | JAKIM | Announced April 2025 |
| Singapore | Yes, every restaurant | MUIS | Announced 23 February 2026 |
| United Kingdom | No | None | Pork on the breakfast menu |
| Canada | No | None | No Halal statement found |
Tim Hortons Malaysia announced that all its outlets are certified by JAKIM, Malaysia's Halal authority.[2] Tim Hortons Singapore announced that all its restaurants hold MUIS certification, covering its coffee, drinks, sandwiches and baked goods.[1] Both countries are run by the same operator, MGCA Cafe.[2]
Tim Hortons in the UK
Tim Hortons UK's website says nothing about Halal. Its breakfast menu includes a loin bacon roll, streaky bacon muffins and sausage muffins.[3] With no statement and pork on the grill, treat the meat as not Halal. The chicken sandwiches are no exception unless a restaurant shows a certificate naming its certifier.
Tim Hortons in Canada
We found no Halal statement from Tim Hortons in Canada. Mufti Faisal al-Mahmudi of Fatwa.ca writes that he has seen cross-contamination at Tim Hortons and cautions against its sandwiches and bagels. He allows items where contamination is not conceivable: a whole bagel, unsliced and untoasted, a doughnut kept apart from other baked goods, Timbits and coffee.[4] For what goes into a doughnut, see doughnuts.
Everywhere else
The logo does not carry the certificate. In any other country, look for a Halal statement from that country's Tim Hortons operator, or a certificate in the restaurant that names the certifier and its expiry date. Without either, stick to coffee and baked goods, as in Canada. For another doughnut chain, see Krispy Kreme.
Where you'll find it
- Coffee, Iced Capps and lattes
- Doughnuts, Timbits and bagels
- Breakfast sandwiches, wraps, chicken sandwiches and burgers

Scholarly view
Where a recognised Islamic authority certifies the restaurant, as JAKIM does in Malaysia and MUIS in Singapore, the certificate settles it. Where there is none, two questions remain: the meat, which is not Halal without a certificate, and cross-contamination.
Mufti Faisal al-Mahmudi of Fatwa.ca, writing about Canadian Tim Hortons, cautions against sandwiches and sliced or toasted bagels because of contact with non-Halal meat on the line, but allows items where contamination is not conceivable, such as a whole untoasted bagel, a doughnut kept apart from other baked goods, Timbits and coffee.
