Baker’s yeast and nutritional yeast are fungi cultivated on plant carbohydrate media. They are not slaughtered animals and are treated as Halal. Brewer’s yeast as a deactivated food ingredient is likewise Halal; alcoholic beer itself remains Haram. Yeast extract has its own page when used as a savoury flavouring.

Yeast used in baking and as nutritional flakes is a cultivated fungus. Islamic dietary law does not treat it as meat; food yeast is Halal.
