How to verify
- Read the Halal answer on your Dishoom restaurant's page (dishoom.com, 'Is Dishoom Halal?').
- Ask to see the supplier certificates it says it keeps.
- Avoid the bacon and sausage dishes, and decide whether stunned Halal meat and a kitchen that also cooks pork meet your standard.
Quick checks
- Lamb, chicken and turkey: Halal-certified suppliers; ask to see the certificates.
- The animals are stunned before slaughter.
- Bacon, sausages and alcohol are on the menu, kept apart.
- Halal meat in a mixed kitchen: decide if that meets your standard.
What decides the answer
-
Lamb, chicken and turkey: from Halal-certified suppliers, per Dishoom; it keeps copies of the certificates
-
The animals are stunned before slaughter
-
Bacon, sausages and alcohol are on the menu; Dishoom says they are stored separately and cooked on dedicated griddles or pans
-
The same answer appears on the page of each of Dishoom's UK restaurants

Dishoom's statement names no meat other than lamb, chicken and turkey
Why this ruling
Dishoom serves Bombay café food (grills, curries, biryanis, small plates and chaats) from breakfast to dinner in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Each restaurant has a Halal page on Dishoom's site, and each gives the same answer.[1][2]
What Dishoom says
"All our lamb, chicken and turkey are sourced from Halal-certified suppliers, and we have copies of the certificates for your peace of mind."[1]
In the same answer, Dishoom says it also serves "items like alcohol, sausages, and bacon", which it calls Haram. It says they are prepared separately, cooked on dedicated griddles or pans with utensils washed afterwards, and stored separately in the fridges. And: "our animals are stunned before slaughter."[1]
What that means for your order
- Lamb, chicken and turkey dishes use meat from Halal-certified suppliers. Ask to see the certificates Dishoom says it keeps.
- Bacon and sausages are what Dishoom itself calls Haram. Its pages describe the Halal-friendly menu as running "from lunchtime onwards", so check breakfast dishes before ordering.
- Alcohol is served. The drinks list also has chai, lassi, sharbat and other alcohol-free drinks.
- Other meats are not named in the Halal answer, so ask about any dish that is not lamb, chicken or turkey.
Halal meat in a mixed kitchen
Dishoom is not a Halal-only restaurant: it cooks pork, separately, in the same kitchen, and serves alcohol. Its meat is also stunned. Many Muslims eat Halal-certified meat prepared apart in a restaurant like this; others want unstunned meat, or a kitchen with no pork at all, and Dishoom meets neither. HMC vs HFA explains the stunning question, and How to check a Halal certificate what to look for on the certificates.
Where you'll find it

Scholarly view
Dishoom is a 'Halal meat, mixed kitchen' restaurant. The lamb, chicken and turkey come from Halal-certified suppliers and the animals are stunned. Pork and alcohol are on the menu but stored and cooked apart. Muslims who accept stunned Halal meat prepared separately in a restaurant that also serves pork and alcohol can eat the meat dishes; those who want a Halal-only kitchen or unstunned slaughter will not find it here.
