Is Maoam Halal?
No — this one is Haram.
Haribo UK's FAQ says: 'Our UK range of products contains gelatine deriving from pork. This includes our MAOAM range, and Chamallows. The only exception are our Halal products where beef gelatine is used, and the products are clearly marked.' Maoam has belonged to Haribo since 1986.

Why it is Haram
Haribo UK names pork as the gelatine source for its UK range and Maoam in particular, so UK Maoam is not a case of doubt. Pork gelatine is Haram in all four Sunni schools. A minority of scholars argue that processing transforms it (istihala), but Halal certifiers do not accept that for food gelatine.

What decides the answer
-
UK Maoam: gelatine from pork, per Haribo UK's FAQ
-
Haribo's Halal products use beef gelatine and are clearly marked; Haribo UK does not list Maoam among them
-
Packs from other countries: check that pack's label and any Halal mark
Why this ruling
Maoam are fruit chews (Stripes, Pinballs, Bloxx and others) made by Haribo, which bought the brand in 1986.[3] In the UK they are not Halal.
What Haribo UK says
Haribo UK's FAQ answers the gelatine question directly: "Our UK range of products contains gelatine deriving from pork. This includes our MAOAM range, and Chamallows. The only exception are our Halal products where beef gelatine is used, and the products are clearly marked."[2]
So UK Maoam contain pork gelatin, which is Haram: the Qur'an forbids the flesh of swine.[1]
Halal Haribo is a separate, marked range
Haribo makes Halal products with beef gelatine, and says they are clearly marked on the pack.[2] Its answer does not name any Maoam product among them. A Halal Haribo sweet does not clear Maoam, and a Maoam pack without a Halal mark should be treated as containing pork gelatine. How Haribo's Halal range works is on the Haribo page.
Packs from other countries
Haribo UK's answer covers the UK range. A Maoam pack bought abroad, or imported, follows its own recipe: read the gelling agent and look for a Halal mark and certifier on that pack.
For sweets whose makers say they contain no animal gelatine, see the UK Halal sweets guide.
How to verify
Check labels carefully for alternate names or derivatives linked to maoam, and choose clearly Halal or plant-based alternatives instead.
Quick checks
- Haribo UK: Maoam uses pork gelatine.
- Halal Haribo products are clearly marked and use beef gelatine.
- Packs from other countries need their own label check.
