Is Gushers Halal?
It depends on what the label says.
Gushers are General Mills' liquid-centre fruit snacks. The ingredient lists for the variety pack, Super Sour and Flavor Mixers name corn syrup, sugar, pear puree, modified corn starch, palm and cottonseed oil, carrageenan, agar-agar, xanthan gum, fruit acids, vitamin C and synthetic colours. There is no gelatin. Glycerin and monoglycerides (E471) are listed without a source; they are Halal from plant fat and not from non-Halal animal fat. With no vegetarian or Halal mark to settle it, Gushers stay Halal if verified.

How to verify
- Read the box: Gushers list no gelatin.
- Glycerin and monoglycerides are the open questions; ask General Mills whether they are plant-derived.
- Without that answer, decide whether you accept unspecified E471; many certifiers don't.
- Check special editions for added ingredients.
Quick checks
- No gelatin: corn starch, carrageenan and agar-agar.
- Glycerin and E471: source not stated.
- Not Halal-certified.

Why this ruling
Gushers are General Mills' fruit snacks with a liquid centre. They avoid the gelatin that makes many fruit snacks Haram, but they leave one smaller question open.
No gelatin
Gushers are set with modified corn starch, carrageenan and agar-agar, both from seaweed.[1] The Super Sour and Flavor Mixers boxes use the same base.[2] That puts them ahead of Welch's Fruit Snacks, which use pork or beef gelatin.
Glycerin and monoglycerides
Two minor ingredients, glycerin and monoglycerides (E471), can be made from plant oils or animal fat. The box doesn't say which, and Gushers carry no vegetarian or Halal mark that would settle it. Plant-based, they are Halal; from pork or non-Halal animal fat, they are not. Until General Mills confirms the source, Gushers stay Halal if verified.

Scholarly view
Gushers avoid the usual fruit-snack problem, gelatin, by using seaweed gums. What remains is the common emulsifier question: E471 and glycerin are Halal from plant oils and Haram from pork or non-Halal animal fat, and labels rarely say which. Some Muslims accept unspecified E471 in small amounts; Halal certifiers require the source to be known.
