Reviewed

Wall's ice creams sold in the UK (Feast, Solero, Cornetto, Calippo, Twister, Mini Milk, Viennetta) carry no Halal certification mark.

Next step None of the UK Wall's range carries a Halal mark. Calippo and Twister have no dairy whey question at all; Feast, Solero, Cornetto, Mini Milk and Viennetta contain whey, which depends on the view you follow on rennet. How to verify
Scan a label

How to verify

  1. Calippo and Twister: water-ice and sorbet lines listed as vegetarian with no calf rennet.
  2. Feast, Solero, Cornetto, Mini Milk and Viennetta: the whey may involve animal rennet; GMWA's Food Guide accepts it on the Hanafi view, stricter practice avoids it.
  3. Cornetto Vegan and the Cornetto Soft range declare no calf rennet.
  4. Outside the UK, read the local pack: the same names (Langnese, HB, Algida) can differ.

What decides the answer

  • Calippo and Twister (vegetarian, no calf rennet declared)

    Halal by ingredients: not Halal-certified
  • Feast, Solero, Cornetto, Mini Milk, Viennetta (whey that may involve animal rennet)

permissible on the Hanafi view the GMWA Food Guide follows; avoid if you require Halal rennet
  • Cornetto Vegan and Cornetto Soft (no calf rennet declared)

    no whey-rennet question
  • Wall's sold outside the UK (Langnese, HB, Algida)

Why this ruling

Wall's is the UK name of the ice cream range behind Feast, Solero, Cornetto, Calippo, Twister, Mini Milk and Viennetta, now made by The Magnum Ice Cream Company. None of the UK range carries a Halal mark, so the answer comes from the ingredients and from a UK Muslim body that reviews the range.

What the GMWA Food Guide says

The company supplies its product information to the Gloucester Muslim Welfare Association (GMWA), whose Food Guide publishes a product-by-product list for UK shops.[2] Its 2026 list puts every Wall's product it reviewed on the permissible side, and only Carte D'Or products on the Haram side: three for alcohol and one, Kids Marshmallow, for pork gelatine.[1]

Range Food Guide note (2026) What it means
Calippo Suitable for vegetarians, no calf rennet declared No whey, no rennet question
Twister Suitable for vegetarians, no calf rennet declared No rennet question
Cornetto Vegan, Cornetto Soft Vegan certified / no calf rennet declared No rennet question
Feast, Solero, Cornetto Classico and Max, Mini Milk, Viennetta, Soft Scoop Whey powder may contain animal rennet Depends on your view of rennet

The whey question

Whey is the liquid drained off when cheese is made, and cheese is set with rennet. When the rennet came from a calf that was not slaughtered Islamically, the Hanafi school is split: Imam Abu Hanifah held such rennet permissible, his two students held it impure. The Food Guide follows the permissive view while noting that abstaining is the more pious choice, which is why it lists these lines as permissible.[3] If you follow the stricter view, keep to Calippo, Twister, Cornetto Vegan and the Cornetto Soft range.

What is on the labels

UK Solero lists skimmed milk, fruit purees and juices, coconut fat, whey solids, plant gums and mono- and diglycerides, with no gelatine.[4] Calippo is water, fruit juice, sugars, plant gums and paprika and turmeric colours.[5] The mono- and diglycerides (E471) are not labelled by source on UK packs; a French Cornetto Soft pack states they are of plant origin.[6]

For Magnum, from the same company, see Magnum; for ice cream in general, see ice cream.

Where you'll find it

  • Ice lollies and cones from corner shops and supermarket multipacks
  • Viennetta and Soft Scoop tubs for dessert
  • Calippo and Twister water ices for children

Frequently asked questions

Is Wall's ice cream Halal?
It has no Halal mark in the UK. The GMWA's 2026 Food Guide, working from the manufacturer's information, lists the whole UK range it reviewed (Feast, Solero, Cornetto, Calippo, Twister, Mini Milk, Viennetta and others) as permissible, and puts no Wall's product on its Haram list. Most dairy lines have whey that may involve animal rennet, which the Food Guide accepts on the Hanafi view; if you require Halal rennet, stick to Calippo, Twister, Cornetto Vegan or the Cornetto Soft range.
Is Feast Halal?
The GMWA Food Guide lists Feast and Feast Chocolate as permissible, with a note that the whey powder may contain animal rennet. There is no gelatine or pork listed and no Halal mark, so Feast is Halal on the Hanafi view of rennet and a question for those who follow the stricter view.
Is Solero Halal?
Same answer as Feast: the 2026 Food Guide lists every Solero it reviewed (Exotic, Berry Bliss, Orange Burst, Strawberry Twist, the Bonbons and Minis) as permissible, each with the whey-rennet note. UK packs list whey solids and mono- and diglycerides; there is no gelatine.
Is Cornetto Halal?
The Food Guide lists the UK Cornettos as permissible. Classico, Strawberry, Mint, Chocolate and the Max range carry the whey-rennet note; Cornetto Vegan and the Cornetto Soft range declare no calf rennet, so they avoid that question.
Are Calippo and Twister Halal?
Calippo is a water ice of fruit juice, sugar, stabilisers and colours, and the Food Guide lists every Calippo and Twister as suitable for vegetarians with no calf rennet declared. Neither is Halal-certified, but nothing in them raises a Halal question.
Does Wall's ice cream contain gelatine or pork?
Not in the UK range the GMWA reviewed for 2026. The only product from the company on its Haram list for gelatine is Carte D'Or Kids Marshmallow, which contains pork gelatine.

Scholarly view

The UK range raises no gelatine or pork question in the Food Guide's review. The live question is whey: it is drained from cheese made with rennet, and the Food Guide records that the whey powder in most Wall's dairy lines may involve animal rennet.

On the Hanafi view of Imam Abu Hanifah, rennet from a permissible animal is lawful even if the animal was not slaughtered Islamically, so the Food Guide treats these products as permissible; his two students (the Sahibayn) regarded such rennet as impure, and the Food Guide notes that abstaining is the more pious choice.

Alcohol used only as a carrier in flavourings is accepted by the Food Guide unless it comes from grapes or dates.
