Why this ruling
Cadbury Mini Eggs are small milk-chocolate eggs in a crisp, speckled sugar shell, sold in the UK around Easter. Their ingredient list answers most of the Halal question.
What's in them
UK Mini Eggs list sugar, milk, cocoa butter, cocoa mass, skimmed milk powder, whey permeate, palm and shea fats, milk fat, modified starches, the emulsifiers E442 and E476, flavourings and maltodextrin. The shell is coloured with anthocyanins, beetroot red, paprika extract and carotenes, and the pack is marked vegetarian.[1][2] There is no gelatine, carmine, shellac or alcohol.
The one check: whey
Whey permeate is what is left of whey after its protein is removed, and whey comes from cheese-making. Some scholars want the cheese's rennet to be Halal; others accept whey whatever the rennet. The whey page sets out both views. No Halal mark is recorded on UK packs.
Other Mini Eggs products
The Mini Eggs bar is a different recipe, with whole milk powder, rice starch, gum arabic and curcumin among its ingredients.[3] Easter eggs and other editions have their own lists. For other UK chocolate, see Galaxy and Cadbury.
Where you'll find it

Scholarly view
With no gelatine, alcohol, carmine or animal fat listed, Mini Eggs raise only the whey question. Whey comes from cheese-making, and some scholars want the cheese's rennet to be Halal; others accept whey whatever the rennet. Those who eat only certified sweets will find no Halal mark on UK Mini Eggs.
