Are Squashies Halal?
No — this one is Haram.
Every Squashies product on Swizzels' nutrition pages lists gelatine as the gelling agent, from Original Raspberry & Milk to the sour, tropical and seasonal flavours. Asked directly, the official Squashies account said in September 2021: 'our Squashies contain pork gelatine.' Pork gelatine is Haram in all four Sunni schools.

Why it is Haram
Gelatine from pork is Haram in all four Sunni schools. A minority of scholars argue that processing transforms it (istihala), but Halal certifiers do not accept that for food gelatine. Swizzels' own account names pork as the source, so there is no doubt to resolve here.

Swizzels' separate vegan range does not use gelatine: check each pack
Why this ruling
Squashies are Swizzels' soft foam-and-jelly sweets, sold in the UK in flavours from Original Raspberry & Milk to sour, tropical and seasonal versions. They are not Halal.
What Swizzels says
Replying to a customer on X on 28 September 2021, the official Squashies account wrote: "Hi Farrah, our Squashies contain pork gelatine."[2]
Every flavour lists gelatine
Swizzels publishes an ingredient list for each product. The list for Squashies Original begins: glucose syrup, sugar, gelling agent: gelatine.[3] We read all 21 Squashies product pages linked from Swizzels' nutrition pages on 5 October 2026: Original (several pack sizes), Sour Cherry & Apple, Shooting Stars, Tropical, Drumchick, Fizzers, Cherry Cola, Love Hearts, Double Dip, Squeletons, Naughty & Nice, Bubblegum, Strawberry & Cream, Minions Banana & Blueberry and Rhubarb & Custard. Every one lists gelatine.[4]
Why that makes them Haram
Pork gelatin is Haram: the Qur'an forbids the flesh of swine,[1] and Halal certifiers reject the minority view that processing turns pork gelatin into something lawful. Squashies have no Halal version that we found, so there is no pack to look for.
What to buy instead
Swizzels sells a vegan range with no gelatine;[5] Squashies are not part of it. Swizzels itself reminds shoppers that recipes change, so read each pack. Other options are in the UK Halal sweets guide, which lists sweets by what their makers say.
How to verify
Check labels carefully for alternate names or derivatives linked to squashies, and choose clearly Halal or plant-based alternatives instead.
Quick checks
- All Squashies flavours list gelatine.
- Swizzels says the gelatine is pork.
- Vegan Swizzels sweets are a separate range.
