Why this ruling

Maggi is Nestlé's instant noodle brand. Nestlé India and Nestlé Australia answer for their own packs, and the recipes differ, so the answer depends on where your pack was made.

India

Maggi India answers the pork question directly: "MAGGI Noodles manufactured in India does not contain pig fat/pork." It adds that all its 2-minute noodle flavours are "completely vegetarian, except for MAGGI Chicken Noodles".[1] So Masala and the other vegetarian flavours raise no meat question.

Australia

The Australian 2 Minute Noodles Beef Flavour contains no beef. The noodle is wheat flour, vegetable oil and mineral salts, and the sachet is salt, flavour enhancers 621 and 635, sugar, yeast extract, flavouring, colour, vegetable fat, onion, soy sauce powder and spices.[3] Maggi Australia says only its Fusian Laksa noodles contain dairy.[2]

The one open point is flavour enhancer 635, disodium ribonucleotides, which can be made by fermentation or from yeast, fish or meat;[4] the pack doesn't say which, and it carries no Halal mark.

Elsewhere

Maggi made for other countries uses other recipes, so read the pack you have and look for a Halal mark. For a UK instant noodle, see Pot Noodle.

Where you'll find it

  • Instant noodles cooked in two to three minutes
  • Masala noodles in India
  • Quick soups and stir-fries

Scholarly view

A 'Beef' flavour name does not mean beef is in the pack: the Australian Beef flavour lists none. What decides Maggi is the country recipe: Maggi India rules out pork and says only its Chicken flavour is non-vegetarian, while the Australian Beef flavour lists no meat but uses flavour enhancer 635, which can be animal-derived. A Halal mark on the pack is the clearest evidence.
